The ultimate play kitchen accessories list includes real kitchen items to outfit your dream play kitchen to match your home aesthetic.

Where to Find Them

Miniature version of many common kitchen items are stocked and sold by stores, both brick and mortar and online. Once you get in the mindset of looking for miniature versions for your play kitchen outside of the toy aisle, I’m sure you’ll find things that match your aesthetic and style in more places than you realize.

However, not everyone has a budget for stocking a second kitchen in their home, and often times the mini versions seem to cost about the same as a full size one. Rather than buying new, I keep an eye out at thrift stores and rummage sales, along with the clearance aisle. I by no means have as many items as what I have compiled below, but I’ve put together an extensive list to get your wheels turning. Remember, often times less is more, especially with kids. Too much to clean up is nobody’s friend.

Benefits of Real Kitchen Tools vs Toys

Kids love mimicking their parents and older siblings. Often times they are most happy playing with real kitchen dishes and spoons anyway. When you stock their play kitchen with cooking quality items they can actually use THEIR tools in the kitchen. Pull out a mini rolling pin and let them roll that cookie or pie dough while you work. Let them chew on that mini silicone food safe spatula….my kids like them better than teethers anyway. When your kids outgrow the play kitchen, you may just find a place for them in your everyday kitchen and keep the memories that go with.

Choosing a Play Kitchen

several play kitchens to consider

This kitchen is a classic white by PairPear and features a few accessories and a more modern design. It features a large storage space (behind closed doors) for tucking away all your favorite play kitchen accessories.

If you’re in the mood for nontraditional food play, this barista station from Hearth & Hand with Magnolia cannot be passed up! Who wouldn’t love a mini espresso machine?

If you are on a budget, the IKEA DUKTIG steals the cake! (Pardon the pun). With “working” burners and a neutral aesthetic it’s a crowd pleaser at under $80!

Utensils

Opt for miniature versions of your favorites. I love this set of mini spatulas and whisks from Figmint, but you can find mini versions in the kitchen department of most store.

These wooden spoons are adorable, and mymic the ones found in the Melissa & Doug pots and pans set.

Rolling pins are great for use in the real kitchen for for imaginary play with playdough or kinetic sand. Consider this 11 inch French wooden rolling pin or this junior wooden rolling pin with a 6 inch barrel. Small wooden pizza rollers are also perfect for small hands.

Pots & Pans

We have this stainless steel set of pots and pans from Melissa and Doug and they have held up well for many years. I especially love the wooden spoon set that comes with them!

I also found an adorable half quart enameled cast iron dutch oven by Hearth & Hand with Magnolia. It’s the perfect size for pretend play! Since it is made of iron and it is HEAVY, I recommend this one for ages 3+. You don’t want any damages from dropping on a little foot or banging on a wall.

Baking Pans

Most baking pans come in a mini form. Who doesn’t love mini muffins or bundt cake? Here are a few ideas to get you started…

  • Mini Loaf Pans
  • Mini Angel Food Cake Pan
  • 4 Inch Springform Pans
  • Micro Muffin & Cupcake Pan
  • 1/8 (9×7) Cookie Sheet & Baking Pan

Additional Play Kitchen Accessories

This one pound kitchen scale from Hearth & Hand with Magnolia is the perfect size for a play kitchen and actually works!

Don’t forget the timer! Kids love playing with timers and this adorable rainbow visual countdown timer adds a bit of fun kid flair.

I’m in love with this wooden Kitchenaid style mixer from Hearth & Hand with Magnolia. It comes in the perfect shade of green!

Don’t forget storage! These metal canisters with wooden lids are prefect for creating a mini set of flour and sugar storage to keep on the counter.

Play Food

I always go back and forth on whether I want my play food to be realistic and washable (plastic) or classic & durable (wooden). Then there’s felt food which is also a great option. Here are a few sets that caught my attention.

This play meat cutting set , vegetables, and fruits by PairPear comes with a wooden knife and it’s own storage crate. Absolutely adorable!

Who doesn’t love a basket full of sweets like this bakery set from Hearth & Hand with Magnolia?

Staples like eggs and milk are a play kitchen must!

Or go for a whole cookie set with the milk, eggs, and even a kitchen scale!

Time to Go Shopping!

I hope this gives you a few fun ideas and some new inspiration for play kitchen accessories your little one can enjoy!
